There are reasons mirrors are used in interiors, including making small rooms feel larger and making dark rooms brighter. Of course, there are other ways to do those same things, and if you don't feel like you want to include mirrors in your decor, there's nothing wrong with that. Remember to stay hydrated in that heat. Vinegar diluted spray works also. The flies and wasp are attracted to the ammonia in the animal urine waste in addition to the water. It does not hurt plants or animals. The animals will tend to avoid potting in the area I spray the vinegar (great for training). I definitely feel your challenge.
